Workshop: Information Transmission

June 17 & 18, 2013 @ BIOTEC

June 17 & 18, 2013
Dr. Constance Chollet (B CUBE - Center for Molecular Bioengineering)
Dr. Mathieu Clément-Ziza (Biotechnologisches Zentrum der TU Dresden, BIOTEC)
Dr. Coralie Zermatten (Forschungsstelle für Vergleichende Ordensgeschichte - FOVOG)
BIOTEC, Tatzberg 47/49, 01307 Dresden
The aim of this workshop is to bring together experienced and younger scientists from different fields (biology, history, chemistry, archeology, geography, art, physics…) to initiate an exchange of knowledge and methods.
Due to an increasing specialisation of researchers, multidisciplinarity is often limited in a research field or in a faculty. Until the nineteenth century, scholars were interdisciplinary and interested in both humanities and natural sciences. The massive increase of knowledge would have obliged scientists to specialise in order to comprehend a specific research area. Thus, universal knowledge is not anymore recognised at university and a transdiciplinary researcher without a classical “label” can rarely achieve a prosperous carrier. However, being rewarded as a “University of excellence”, the TU Dresden should promote the initial aims of University: extend and spread knowledge. Accordingly, this workshop aims to initiate an interdisciplinary dynamic following the TU Dresden motto «Wissen schafft Brücken. Seit 1828.» (Knowledge builds bridges).
The workshop is divided in three sessions. Impulse lectures at the beginning of each section should set the basis and stimulus for small group discussions, in which an active participation is expected from everyone.
