Cornerstone ceremony for the new B CUBE building
Today on 19 April 2016, representatives from the Staatsbetrieb Sächsisches Immobilien- und Baumanagement (SIB) and the two future users Center for Molecular Bioengineering B CUBE and German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in the Helmholtz Gesellschaft (DZNE) laid the foundation for the joint new building. The building has a total floor space of 5344 m², of which 2759 m² are used by the ZIK B CUBE, and it will be finished in May 2018. The total cost will be about 41 million euros. The new building is an important project within the Excellence Initiative of the TU Dresden. The building is designed by the architectural firm wörner traxler richter (Dresden).
Dr. Ulf Nickol (SIB) opened the cornerstone ceremony followed by wishes and thanks of the speaker of DZNE, Prof. Gerd Kempermann and the speaker of ZIK B CUBE, Prof. Nils Kröger. Together with the wishes for a speedy and successful completion of the building plans of the new building, documents related to the future users, a hand drawing and the foundation certificate have been immortalized in the foundation stone.
The ZIK B CUBE has been housed since 2010 in interim space in a residential and office building in Dresden-Johannstadt. The space in the new building is urgently needed for the planned eight research groups and three technology platforms, and will offer modern laboratories and offices as well as vibration and temperature-stable microscopy areas and a seminar and communication area.
