Engineering Life 2013: Bio-molecular principles for novel methods and materials
B CUBE, the Center for Molecular Bioengineering at the Technische Universität Dresden and the Max Bergmann Center of Biomaterials at the Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden hosted the Symposium „Engineering Life 2013: Bio-molecular principles for novel methods and materials“ on September 17 - 18, 2013 in Dresden.
The Symposium aims to bridge the scales: bringing together experts in investigating living structures, starting on a molecular level, with engineers translating the ensuing knowledge into innovative methods, materials and technologies. Topics under discussion include
- (i) BioProspecting, the identification and systematic cataloging of natural phenomena which answer unmet technological needs,
- (ii) BioNanoTools, the development and application of methods to characterize biological structures and systems at the molecular level, and
- (iii) BioMimetics, the design and synthesis of novel technical materials and systems based on fundamental building blocks that supersede those found in nature.
